It was described as wearing a Rothko. How could I possibly pass that up? I want to be a Rothko walking through this world. Layered, smudged edges, vibrant...who wouldn't want to be a Rothko?

But the frangrance...it is sensual, spicy, and indulgent. It reminds me of the warmth between two people when friction is tangible. Oh yes.

I created Little Rock Paper Scissor to showcase everyday art, fashion, and beauty that Little Rock has to offer. For the past nine years, I have visited local spots around Little Rock such as coffee shops, bars, restaurants, boutiques, salons, spas, and the thriving River Market and reveled in the style and art that abounds. Little Rock may not be known world wide for its art and fashion scene, but the current that runs through the city is as strong as the Arkansas River it hugs.

If you want to know what local artists are creating and where you can find it, this is your spot. You’ll get a glimpse of what people on the streets are wearing and the pulse of fashion and style in Little Rock. And inspiration to shop locally, try new styles, and bring local art into your life will trickle in.

Growing up in New York, I was exposed to fine art museums and galleries and a fashion scene as vibrant as the lights of the city. Meeting designers and artists and getting an inside glimpse of their inspiration and interpretations became less of a privilege and more ordinary. Moving to Little Rock in 1999 gave me a renewed appreciation of local art and style. I began a quest to fulfill my craving for what drives the aesthetic of this great city that is known more for producing Presidents and presidential candidates.

I received my degree in Communication from the University of Arkansas and wondered how that would fit in with my love of all things beautiful and unique. What I realized was that the nonverbal message created by artists and designers is emulated more clearly than most spoken words. The way the wearer interprets the designer’s style says more about this city than any press release issued by a chamber of commerce. The local support of artists’ designs makes more of a statement about how cohesive our community is and the talent that lies therein.
